Prior to opening Heeder | Thompson in San Diego, California, Amanda Thompson was an Associate Attorney at Gray & Prouty, where she primarily practiced insurance defense. She handled defense of litigation cases at all stages, including cases alleging personal injury, products liability, premises liability and construction defect matters. In addition, she handled subrogation cases for property damage and personal injury. When representing personal injury plaintiffs, Amanda successfully obtained policy limit settlements for her clients.
Amanda’s litigation experience includes preparing and filing pleadings, preparing and responding to discovery, taking depositions, periodic written reports to clients and carriers, drafting and arguing motions, preparing for and attending mediations, negotiations with counsel, as well as preparing for trial, including pre-trial documents and conferences. Since then, Amanda has argued in front of the California Court of Appeals and written multiple appellate briefs. She has also handled wage and hour disputes pursuant to the California Labor Code as well as advising clients on severance negotiations.
Amanda’s passion for employment law matters arose during her work at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s San Diego office. There, she assisted with high profile cases brought pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which involved issues including sexual harassment, discrimination based on race, national origin, and religion. She also assisted with matters involving age discrimination under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
In the local legal community, Amanda is involved in the Community Outreach Committee of the Lawyer’s Club of San Diego, which organizes and fundraises for community service projects performed by local lawyers and other volunteers throughout the year. Amanda is also actively involved in the American Bar Association, where she serves as a Vice Chair and co-editor for the newsletter of the TIPS Employment Law and Litigation committee. She is also a Vice Chair of the Law in Public Service Committee of TIPS, which organizes public service projects performed by attorney members and the Products, Consumer and General Liability Committee. Amanda has also been given a rating of “Excellent” on avvo.com.
Amanda is admitted to practice in all State Courts of California as well as the District Court for the Southern District of California.
